Preparing for a Yoga Class
Classes are blended level classes designed to accommodate all people, regardless of age, ability or experience. Variations and modifications of all poses are offered to each student, who will be encouraged to practice at her or his own level of experience and ability.

"It is not that the student need to accommodate him or herself to yoga, but rather the yoga practice must be tailored to fit each person."

 T.K.V. Desikachar

Classes may include a combination of several styles of yoga, such as hatha, deep stretch yin, flow and restorative, giving particular attention to the alignment and breathwork characteristic of each of these unique styles of yoga.

Every class begins with a few quiet minutes for calming the mind and bringing focus to the practice. A warm-up period follows, progressing into the main poses comprising the body of the class, and closes in a relaxation period that allows the body to more fully integrate the benefits of the practice.

We practice in bare feet, preferably on an empty stomach (2 hours after a meal; 30 minutes after a light snack), and in semi-fitted clothing that allows for ease of movement (baggy clothing has a tendency to interfere with movement and can obstruct the view of knees, ankles, hips, shoulders and other areas that are important to see when checking for alignment).

Please arrive a early to your first class to complete a waiver and questionnaire (or download, complete and bring with you). Please arrive a few minutes early to all classes so that you have time to get settled in and be on your mat by start of class. We have a space where you can change clothing.

Please turn off cell phones and pagers (if you have a special situation that necessitates leaving these devices on, please discuss with the instructor), and store all personal items away from the practice area.

Many people are sensitive to strong fragrances, so no strongly scented colognes or lotions, please.
