Global Mala Yoga for Peace Project Unites the Yoga Community in Support of the United Nations International Day of Peace

Yogis Throughout the World Cross the Borders of their Mats to Raise Consciousness and Funds for Important Causes

Metta Yoga Studio

Bliss Wellness Center, 2416 Sir Barton Way, will celebrate Global Mala Yoga for Peace on Sunday, September 19, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

By performing 108 Sun Salutations in unison we demonstrate that peace begins within, and it is our goal to unite the yoga community to create peace in the world. So we ask all people who value peace to take a stand and attend our Global Mala Yoga for Peace event.

What You Should Know:

We will perform 108 Sun Salutations lead throughout this time period by different teachers. Sun Salutations can be a physically challenging practice, so please participate at your own pace, level and ability. Join us for just a few salutations or stay throughout the event, resting and joining back in as you are able. Everyone is welcome to participate, but please respect your body, know your limitations and take responsibility for your own well-being. Your presence at the event is in itself a wonderful demonstration of support for the cause.

Refreshments will be provided.
Yoga mats are available, but feel free to bring your own.

Pre-registration is requested. Please call (859) 264-8224.

$25 is a suggested donation that will be given to a local charity.

On September 18 and 19, the Global Mala Yoga for Peace Project, whose purpose is to unite the global yoga community, will implement events throughout the world in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace. Forming a “mala around the earth” through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108, the mission of the Global Mala Project is to raise both funds and consciousness for some of the most pressing issues facing the world today. Global Mala Yoga for Peace is a featured event during National Yoga Month September 2010.

Taking its name from the sacred prayer beads called “mala” composed of 108 beads, the mala is symbolic of the prayer for peace, hope and charity the Global Mala Project will be sending to the world.

“With the rising threat of Global Warming, the illusion of separateness is dissolving around the world,” said Shiva Rea, world renowned Yoga teacher and catalyst for the Global Mala Project. “Yoga is one of the few common denominators for millions of people around the world; together we are creating a circle around the earth and dedicating our energy to peace.”
